Bowl a Turkey This November
Bowlers call three strikes in a row a turkey, and this November at All Star Lanes, landing one will win you two complimentary drinks.
Bowl one at any point in your game, show the team your score and the drinks are yours, with nothing to sign up for and no code to remember. All it takes is three strikes back to back, which anyone who’s picked up a bowling ball will tell you is easier said than done.
It runs all month across our London venues in Holborn, Brick Lane, Stratford and White City, so if the evenings are drawing in and the group chat is short on plans, you’ve got a good reason to book a lane!
What is a turkey in bowling?
A turkey is three strikes in a row, which means knocking down all ten pins with your first ball in three consecutive goes.
The most widely told story behind the name goes back to early American bowling tournaments, when prizes were often food and some organisers would hand a turkey to anyone who managed three straight strikes around Thanksgiving. Nobody has pinned down exactly when it first happened, but the name long outlived the prize, and we’ve swapped the bird for two drinks.
How the Bowl a Turkey challenge works
Taking part is straightforward, even if pulling it off is another matter.
1. Bowl a game at any All Star Lanes venue during November.
2. Get three strikes in a row at any point in your game. A strike shows as an X on the scoreboard, so you’re after three side by side.
3. Show the team your score.
4. Enjoy two complimentary drinks on us.
